Below are shown some pictures of the Disetronic Pump in use.
Normally the display is blank, but after pushing one of
the buttons the display appears. Three beeps indicate that the pump is in RUN mode. The
arrow in the upper right indicates that the display is showing the units of insulin left
in the reservoir - in this case 61.1 units.
The actual basal dose. At this time the pump give out 0.7 IU insulin pr.
hour. This should be adjusted to the need of insulin if you don't eat. Each hour the basal
dose can be adjusted separately.
If you push the button marked «S» once more, the total insulin used
since midnight will be shown in the display. In this case 24 units have been used since
midnight
The last bolus given is shown on the display. If you forget, the pump will
always remember. The last 10 boluses can be recalled. On the left you can see that the
last bolus given was 4 units at 11:30. At this moment the time is flashing on the screen
If you press the button marked «h» or «m» a bolus dose will be
programmed. 0.5 units for each press of the button. The pump will respond by giving
a beep for each 0.5 units of insulin. Finally a series of beeps will be given: one beep
for every half unit. At this point the bolus can still be cancelled.
In STOP-mode the basal rate can be programmed and controlled. A correct
basal rate is important to your therapy.
For safety reasons the pump must be in STOP-mode and all three buttons
must be pressed before you can fill a new tube when changing the reservoir.
Here you can see the TENDER infusion set in real life. This one has been
used for nearly a week. Normally you are recommended to change it every 3 or 4 days.
Most
of the pumpers feel little or no pain from the infusion set even if they sleep on their
stomach.
